THE ACHIEVERS

1 April Saturday, 7:45pm
CHICAGO PREMIERE
Abraham Lim | 2006 | 106 min | video | USA
Starring Akie Kotabe, Samantha Quan, David J. Lee, Jennifer Willison

A generation that has been set on a course of achievement by their boomer parents, what will they do when there’s no one to tell them what to do?
Murphy, an aspiring Asian American writer who works at a Chinese restaurant writing fortune cookie inserts is facing eviction along with his twenty-something gen-Y roommates. When his stoner-biochemist roommate manufactures homemade ecstasy to pay off his delinquent rent, Murphy mistakes the pills for his allergy medicine. He gradually finds himself collaborating with a strange new muse intent on shaking up his life and getting Murphy the girl.
A tale of sex, love, and identity, The Achievers is a loud shout out to the quiet Americans. An homage to quirky Asian media, from Japanese music and anime to the globally successful Korean dramas, it takes us on an unexpected ride through the high-energy urban mosaic of Los Angeles.
A native of Kansas, Abraham Lincoln Lim has been working in the film industry for over 10 years. Whether it a music video, award winning short, or even editing Cookie’s Fortune for Robert Altman, Abe has continually impressed us with his craft. His first feature film Roads and Bridges (Showcase 2000) went on to win four Grand Jury Prizes in festivals around the world, and this special presentation of The Achievers will surely make its mark on audiences all over.
