Yvonne (Sylvia Chang), a 49 year old Chinese divorcee is waiting for her life to begin. She seems fated to cater to the selfish demands of her siblings and overbearing elderly mother. Already successful at suppressing her needs, things change once she embarks on a relationship with Jose (Esai Morales), a Mexican-American dentist, much to the chagrin of her conservative Chinese family. Soon she finds herself torn between obligations to her family and that of her own. Through a handful of misadventures and a near tragedy, Yvonne and her family discover that humanistic quirks transcend culture and they learn to be less critical. In doing so they are able to love and accept one another as they are.
This humorous outing is director Frank Lin’s first feature and also includes appearances by James Hong, Eddie Shin, Fabio, and the late Pat Morita.
