The Auntie Sewing Squad Resistance Playbook

Not all heroes wear capes—they wear (and donate!) face masks. On October 22, join us for a screening of The Auntie Sewing Squad Resistance Playbook. Stepping up during the COVID-19 pandemic when the U.S. government failed to address public health needs, Kristina Wong launched this volunteer collective of largely Asian American and BIPOC women to handcraft and donate cloth facemasks across the nation. As police violence and anti-Asian rhetoric fueled more political upheaval, the group became a community space for solidarity, grief, anger, and hope.

An Choi is a micro-cafe where we encourage people to play
with their food! An Choi’s literal translation in Vietnamese is
‘eat fun’ or meaning ‘to eat for fun’, so we seek fun through the
flavors, design, or even context in which the food is enjoyed.
The baked goods are created by Jenny, a social worker turned
baker who wanted a different way to nurture our inner child.
While the savory dishes embody Jackson’s memories of
growing up in a Vietnamese household.
We draw inspiration primarily from Vietnamese and East Asian
flavors, but stay open to playing with any ingredient and
technique. Food can be very technical or even a chore for
some, but for us, it can be just for fun!
